Jax is doing awesome! He’s 34 lbs. and finally starting to fill out. He is my little shadow, and is obsessed with other dogs and kids. The dog park is his highlight of the day, and playing with his “girlfriend” Reika, next door, a hyper Vizsla. His recall is getting a lot better, but still has naughty moments when he leaves the yard when other dogs walk by. School will be starting soon for the kids, and he loves to walk them to school and get 100 “pets” and tons of attention once we hit the school yard. He’s been sneaking up on furniture, since he hasn’t been using his kennel much lately. He’s allowed 1 chair in our living room, where he can sit and watch everything going on outside in the bay window. Daily at the dog park, in the neighborhood, or our neighbor comments, on how beautiful his markings are. He loves to go for car rides, hoping he’ll get treats at a drive thru!

Jack is at 39 pounds and measures 19 inches! His training is going well. He's still in the beginner obedience/agility class. He loves the equipment! Nothing phases him. He's getting better around Juno meaning not every time they're out together is play time. He can be a little hard headed sometimes. He has also been easy to train.  Yesterday he went with us to a family gathering. He doesn't understand kids yet. These two-legged ones are the same size as me and make just as much noise.  He's good around them but just sits there and stares at them. He loves the pool! Overall he is doing very well.

Bosco is doing well. He still bites his tail when excited and chases tennis balls to no end. He chooses to sleep on the bed, curled up next to my pillow and occasionally visits his cage next to the bed. His faithfulness knows no bounds and he follows me throughout the house with eye contact I cannot deny. He enjoys rides in the car and on the pontoon baot and has chosen not to molest the two cats in the house. He simply eyes them.

With great sadness we share news of our dear Sophie Jane's passing on July 21, 2010.  (Adoption date: November, 2007)  She was engaging in her usual routine of joyful impatience while I was gathering her leash for the morning run/walk. She fell to her side, suffered a brief seizure and was gone.  Our vet suspects severe stroke.  Just one month ago, at her annual veterinary examination, her blood work was normal, her weight perfect and her fitness level excellent. Sophie was a much loved member of our family, and we miss her terribly.  Thanks for all of your assistance with the adoption process and the loving work you perform. Sincerely,  Jan & John

Buck is a great dog and is a real buddy to Callie (who was born deaf). She follows him everywhere and he really acts as her ears. He's still very active but doesn't have the puppy craziness anymore. Callie is growing up. She's about 35 pounds and you'd be surprised at how tall she is. All border collie however. At 18 months she still gets the zoomies and everybody just gets out of the way. We have few problems at the park. She will charge other dogs but backs off. She also is not as committed to kill our bird as she used to be! Still need to keep an eye on her but they can be in the same room without a riot breaking out. She is really cute, still a monster at times but that's what makes life interesting. She has a very active mind and is always into something. She no longer sleeps in her crate and has the run of the house but she is afraid of ceiling fans so won't go into certain rooms or our bedroom. She sleeps in my recliner at night. Our son is home for the summer and he and Callie have become great late night buddies. He will roll in at all hours of the night and then she cuddles up with him.

Trevor's trainer took these pictures on our final class night. She said he is definitely ready for intermediate obedience. She doesn't let just any dog advance, they have to prove themselves. Along with the pictures, he also received a diploma and he got to choose 2 toys for holding the longest sit/stay and down/stay. Trevor and I now have puppy kindergarten and basic obedience under our belts, time to move on up.

I adopted BellaChet from MWBCR in October 2009. She is a great dog, athletic and smart, but it's been just the last couple months that I've felt like she has relaxed and started to trust that this is indeed her forever home. She's sensitive (wants to please me), doesn't like conflict (she'll body block if she thinks two dogs are going to scuffle), and her silly side is starting to emerge (she loves playing keep-away with another dog's toy). She has such nice, calm energy that her big sister, a 9 year old Border Collie thinks she is just perfect.

Here is Sydney stalking other dogs at the dog park. We go regularly, and she is friendly to all. I feel like she has been with me forever, but it’s been nearly 4 years. She’ll be 6 years old when we celebrate birthdays together on Oct 5. I only know she is deaf when I return home and she keeps sleeping on the couch. Otherwise, she reads me like a book and tells me when it’s supper time.

Maxwell is maturing nicely; he's very smart!  He uses his paw to "knock" on the door when he wants to come inside. He is protective of any animal on our land, chipmunk, ducks, geese,  squirrel, deer, bunnies, moles, anything. Max also chased an eagle from our yard. Brave but the eagle could have swooped down and grabbed Max! He is obsessed with Frisbees, balls and toys of all kind. Sometimes the cat, Bella, and Max roll a ball to each other. It's really cute to watch! He loves his new sister Bella and she gives him a run for his money!  She is in awe of Maxwell and watches everything he does. Max allows Bella to share the kennel with him in the winter! When was really cold, she'd crawl in the kennel with him and they'd nap together.

I want to send you this picture  that we took at the Mounds Pet Fest last weekend. We took Wiley there and they had the radar to see how fast the dogs can run. However there was not much space for the dogs to measure the right speed. He did 17 mph but we know he is can do better. You would like to see Wiley chasing the tennis ball. He is really fast and he does funny things, it is fun watching him.

Lexi came into our home the day before Thanksgiving 2008. She is a super addition to our household. Lexi is smart, a wonderful companion, travels well and enjoys her toys. Her morning "task" is to get the newspaper. Last summer we took Lexi on a canoe/camping trip and she loved being on the water. Since then we have had to get her her own sleeping bag so she doesn't crawl in with me when camping! We are fortunate to have Lexi with us and I think she feels the same way. Cleo (the cat) agrees.

Razzle is doing well. She has continued to develop quite a personality and is, of course, ridiculously spoiled! She is typically BC busy. She can get herself whipped into a frenzy and runs through the house like a maniac, but listens well, and understands when Mom says, "Enough, it is time to settle down". Petco was offering portraits recently, and I thought it was time for her first formal sitting. You will notice the little freckle on her nose is the only remaining spot of pink (I hope it is always there). I think the picture captures her well. Take care, Jane

Tanner is doing great and is an absolute joy to have in our family. He is getting along well with Sam and Levi and has learned to play with toys and my dogs. He is so funny to watch when he is playing by himself. He is very puppy like throwing toys in the air and running all over the place. He has a clumsy way about him that is very funny to watch. All three dogs have the house unrestricted while we are working and we have had no problems. He still does not like going outside without Jean or myself going with him but we are working on it and he is getting better. His fear issues are few and far between but I don't have the heart to take his crate away because all three dogs love it so much. Thunderstorms make it a very popular place and yes all three try to squeeze into it. Tanner and his brothers are all doing well, and getting along just fine. Every day that goes by a little piece of Tanners shell falls away exposing a wonderful, happy, playful, loving dog that has been hiding inside. He loves the snow and a good game of chase with Sammy.

Thought that you might enjoy a few Christmas photos with Prince. He is doing fantastic. Prince loves to go to "manners" class as well as agility (he is a natural). He is like a Rock Star there, as everyone just loves him and calls him by name as soon as he walks in the door. He is well known for his "hugs" at Clever K9. Teri and I can't thank you enough for everything that you have done to help bring Prince into our home.

Annie is doing well and she is fitting into a routine great. She got to sleep with me last weekend when Shane was gone. We continue to walk her each day which is so great. Looking forward to spring and summer and hopefully getting my rear end in gear and running more with her. She got to one of Seth's stuffed animals. I was waiting for that day and was actually pleased to see it, I think she is feeling comfortable here and feeling less sad her foster family. It probably is an adjustment to go from having other dogs around to being the only dog. However, I think she'll like being the solo dog and queen bee with all of the attention. We got her a squeaky squirrel toy which is hilarious and which she loves. I think we're going to go to an obedience class and just get comfortable with the whole training idea. I can't wait to do agility with Annie. The Caiola Family

He's doing great! He's doing very well in obedience classes. He knows a fair amount of commands and we're really trying to work on 'come'. Hopefully if we master come by the summer he can run off leash on some hikes, we'll see. The obedience instructor said he could graduate next week to intermediate classes! So proud! We'll have to get an extra large bone or something to celebrate! He's becoming more like a rascal and enjoying life. This morning we were out for an early stroll and he did about 10 turns and flips in front of me as if to say hurry up! hurry up! Guess I'll need coffee before the walks from now on.

We adopted Oreo in October 2009, here in MN. He was the BEST dog, loyal and loving till the end. He died last Saturday, he went blind suddenly, and confused, we found out he was full of cancer in his abdomen and lungs, and cancer was also causing the blindness. He was a trooper until the end, and was not showing signs of being sick, he only wanted to greet us as we came home and to play with the toys Santa Paws gave to such a good boy. He is now in his forever home, and we are trying to regroup and go on without him. He was well loved by us. He even had his own Facebook page.

Thought that I would send in a quick update on Roxi (Tipsi). All is going really well. My Dad just loves her. Who knew that he could get so attached so quickly? My mom and sister are having a blast with her too. She is quite the character from their reports. We visited a couple weekends ago and she has grown so much and has learned a lot. Taylor (my BC) and Roxi had fun chasing each other for hours outside while we raked leaves. She got Brandi (my BC) to play tug but that was about it. He still has no interest in geese chasing. Maybe I need to take Taylor for more visits. I get to see Roxi again this weekend as we are staying with my sister in the city. My sister is taking Roxi for the weekend so she can "play with her cousins". This will be her second Chicago adventure. I think it calls for a trip to Three Dog Bakery on Halstead!

Posted October 2009

Paris is doing great in our home. We have had her about 2 months and she fits right in. She loves her family of seven humans and her big sister Annabelle (border collie/beagle). She likes her cat sisters but they are not sure of her just yet. Paris is high energy but gentle to everyone. She has been learning commands quickly and seems to understand more than we realize. Paris recently reach a new level in the household. She no longer sleeps in a crate but rather on the bed with Annabelle and our oldest daughter. She is very happy about it. Paris rarely spends time in her crate anymore because she and Annabelle go to work with Mom and Dad. At home Paris enjoys playing out in the yard and when she is inside, she likes to wrestle with her big sis. She has been a great addition to our family and become a great companion to Annabelle. The cats even like her a little. Thank you for the great work you do and we will keep in touch and send pictures. Ava
