Jake is a Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix who found himself with no owner.  He is now with a private rescue and would love to find that permanent home.  He is good with other dogs and seems to do well around cats. He is neutered, up to date on shots and may be a bit overweight due to lack of exercise. Jake was born into a stable family near Ft. Dodge, IA. His owners had to move so they placed Jake and his sister with a relative.  Then the relative had to move so they placed the dogs with a friend. The friend took Jake and his sister out to the country and dumped them. When animal control found them running loose all he had to do was whistle and the dogs came running and jumped right into the truck. Long story short, the original owners saw both Jake and his sister listed on Petfinder and tracked them down, this is why we know so much about his history. Unfortunately the original owners are still not able to take the dogs back so Jake is up for adoption. His sister has already been adopted.  To learn more about Jake please call Don. Don does not have email access so a phone call is the best way to reach him.

Max's current owner is going into the service and can not take Max. Max is kept outside most of the time in a fenced in yard. He is up-to-date on his shots and will be neutered shortly. He is full of BC energy and will need to learn basic commands and how to live in an indoor environment.

Daisy is a very sweet, good tempered, border collie mix and gets along well with other dogs and kids. She needs a new home because her owner has health issues and will be in the hospital for months. Even when her owner gets out of the hospital, she will not be able to take care of Daisy. Daisy would make a wonderful companion but right now she is staying with a neighbor and the situation is difficult. Daisy's owner had accumulated 8 dogs and the burden of caring for them now is falling on one person which is just too much. Moving Daisy around is taking its toll. We tried placing her in foster care and she stopped eating. We need to find a home as soon as possible.

Echo is a German Shepherd and border collie mix. Echo has a very, sad tale to tell. Echo was raised at a dog food testing lab and when Echo was eight they closed the facility. One of the workers had taken a liking to Echo and decided to list him on Craig's List. For those of you that don't know Craig's List is an internet based classifieds site where dogs, cats and other animals are often given away for free. This is a horrible thing to do because in most cases if an animal is given away for free the person taking the animal is not screened to make sure they would be good owners for that animal. In Echo's case a young woman saw the ad for Echo and went and picked him up having no idea what the damage could be to a dog that lived in a testing facility their whole life. She quickly learned that he was terrified of the outside world, was emotionally distant and acted more like a cat than a dog. She was in over her head. She kept Echo for seven months. She got a new job and was moving and also going to graduate school. She called us asking us to take the dog. Echo needs a kind and patient family who will lavish him with love, teach him how to enjoy the outside, work on housebreaking, give him lots of yummy treats and a warm and cozy bed at night. He had been staying at a loving foster home for only three months and truly began connecting with his foster family and their dogs.

Sadly Echo was dropped off at our office by his foster mom and we placed him in a local doggy day care where we are going to try and keep him for a week. He is understandably nervous and confused right now. Our idea is if we flood him with the presence of other dogs and he is forced to go outside every two hours he may start realizing he is a dog and that dogs go potty outside. We know this is a long shot but we are running out of ideas for this poor guy. We are holding out hope though that in the end things will work out for Echo. It would be a injustice and give up on him after spending eight plus long years behind bars by no fault of his own. Echo is ever so gentle and would probably do quite well with another dog in the house to teach him the ropes of being a dog. He is fine with cats and kids too.

Sadie is a 1 yr old Border Collie cross that was turned into rescue for being too rough with small children. She is just trying to be friendly and doesn't know her own strength. Her formative months were spent in a shelter where no one taught her good manners, including not to jump up or mouth people. With daily obedience and clear rules she is rapidly turning into a great pet. Sadie is affectionate, responsive and willing to learn. She might be an excellent prospect for competitive obedience or another sport. In addition to being very friendly with people, Sadie loves other dogs. She has great dog manners and would thrive with a canine buddy of similar size. She is currently living peacefully with her foster mom's 4 Border Collies. Sadie has no behavioral problems aside from a lack of training. Because of her history, Sadie will only go to a home with adults or older children who are willing to help continue her training. She also needs to go to a home without cats or with cats who are accustomed to living with an exuberant herding breed dog. She will be ready to go at the end of January; spayed, fully vaccinated and up to date on heartworm preventative.
