Adopt a Loving Border Collie

Thank you for taking an interest in our organization and this special breed!

Under All Dogs you will find all of our current fosters.  You can view their information and contact their foster parents by clicking on the name and sending an email.  You are more than welcome to email and ask questions, but you must be an approved adopter in order to meet the dogs.  The application process can take a couple of weeks to be completed and you are not guaranteed the dog that you are interested in.  We often get multiple applications for each of our dogs and choosing the new family is entirely up to the foster home.  This decision is made in the best interest of each individual dog and not based on the order in which an application arrives.  Click Here for the Adoption Page.

Next In Line are dogs that are currently being relinquished and are approved to come into our rescue. However, they have not yet been placed with an approved foster family and so they are not covered by our organization’s policies.  Any interest in these dogs is done so at your own risk.  Please view the guidelines before inquiring.

Happy Endings are all of our dogs that have made it to their final destinations with a new FUREVER home!  Take a look at all of the smiling faces that have made their journey through our ranks.

In order to adopt a dog from us, you must first submit an Adoption Application. To submit your application, you may apply online by clicking here. If you have any questions please email us at adoption@mwbcr.org.

Thank you for considering rescue first, and for opening your heart and home to a Border Collie in need.

Max

Age: 4.5 years old

Breed: Border Collie

Sex: Male

Weight: 40 lbs

Hi everybody!  My name is Max, and I am a 4.5-year-old neutered male border collie.  I was born on
12/13/2017 in Dubuque, Iowa.  My foster parents tell me I am a sweet boy and I have been with them since March 18, 2022.  I am a little hesitant or cautious at doing new things (new spaces, new places, etc.) at first but with patience, my foster parents and I get through this.  My foster parents tell me I am a fast learner and a good listener.  I like to play fetch with a tennis ball and spend time with my people.  I wear/use a harness to go on walks and my foster parents tell me that I am a good boy on walks on the leash.  I do not like loud or sudden noises.  I am somewhat protective of my home (space) and my people.  I ask that you introduce me slowly to new people and/or dogs coming into my home/space.  If necessary, I will need to go into another room until I get comfortable with new people and/or dogs. A physical fenced-in yard will be required. I am good with children but will take food from them if they are within reach. My foster parents feed me separately, in my kennel so I can eat in peace.

Yukon

Age: 8 years old

Breed: Border Collie Mix

Sex: Male

Weight: 35-40 lbs

Hello there!  My name is Yukon, and I am an 8-year-old neutered male border collie. Through no fault of my own, I was returned to the care of Midwest Border Collie Rescue by my previous adopters after living with them for approximately 2 years.  My current foster parents tell me I am a sweet boy.  I have been with my current foster parents here in Northern Illinois since mid-February 2022.  I really like to hang out, play, and be with my people.  I do like to go on car rides, and I don’t bark or whine during the ride (Car rides are fun!).  I like when my foster parents play with me with my bark box toys.  I wear/use a harness to go on walks and my foster parents tell me that I am a good boy on walks on the leash.  I am somewhat protective of my home (space) and my people.  I ask that you introduce me slowly to new people and/or dogs coming into my home/space.  If necessary, I will need to go into another room until I get comfortable with new people and/or dogs.  My foster parents feed me separately, so I can eat in peace.  I will need a fenced in yard.

Dixie

Age: 5.5 years old

Breed: Border Collie Mix

Sex: Female

Weight: 35 lbs

Dixie is a 5.5 year old spayed female and weighs 35 lbs. She is a sweet girl. She used to live on a farm, and likes to play ball, roll on her back, and likes to have her tummy rubbed. She is a little sensitive to her surroundings, so be patient with her. Dixie's safe place is her crate. She would do best in a home with no young children, in a quieter neighborhood and if with another pet, a more submissive dog. She is very smart and likes her treats!

Maverick

Age: 1 year old

Breed: Border Collie Mix

Sex: Male

Weight: 39 lbs

Maverick is a year old, and weighs 39 lbs. He is very energetic. He is a sweet boy who loves to play and run. He doesn’t like to be in a kennel, but cannot be trusted alone in the house yet, as he likes to chew, like puppies do. He has had herding tendencies with small children, and will herd if you run. He would be a good companion dog to play with in the yard until he can be trained to walk properly on a leash. He is an escape artist when it comes to harnesses and collars while on leash. He will need a secure fenced in back yard with a secure gate.

Toby

Age: 5 years old

Breed: Border Collie Mix

Sex: Male

Weight: n/a

Once he trusts someone he loves them and is a real snuggle bug. He is very cautious when he meets people but also curious. Best thing when approaching him is to ignore him and let him come on his own terms. Then he is even fine with men and kids. He met my 5 year old student and did fine. He gets along with other dogs well but is not much of a player. Because he only has one eye he likes to walk on my right sight so he doesn’t bump into me all the time. He loves to go on walks.

He would be best in a home with a single woman who loves to have a dog sleep in her bed and on the couch. Sudden movements scare him.

Bruno

Age: 2.5 years old

Breed: Border Collie

Sex: Male

Weight: 52 lbs

Bruno is an energetic boy. He likes to jump over baby gates and might be a good candidate for agility. He’s pretty smart. Bruno would do well in a home with no other dogs, cats, or kids. He knows sit, shake, and down. He chooses to sleep on the second shelf of our laundry room wire rack. This is where we keep extra bedding. He likes his people but he is cautious at first. He doesn’t like having things taken away so we trade for something he likes more. We feed him in his room by himself. He would rather eat alone. He has not shown any desire to herd, but will chase birds when he sees one. Not sure about other small animals, but it’s safe to assume he quite possibly would. He seeks out attention when he wants it and we don’t fuss him unless he does. When he doesn’t want to go in his room, he will sit down strike. I offer him treats on the way to his room and he will usually follow me in. He’s got some quirks, but he’s a great dog.

Bruno takes a little while to get to know someone. He must be introduced to the same person several times from a distance. Once he gets to know them, he behaves well. We walk him every day in our semi-rural area, where there are very few cars and not a lot of people. He’s not the city type. He will sometimes bolt for a small animal when he sees one with little warning. He would rather not be hugged or kissed, but enjoys petting while he sits at your feet. He is very cautious when you take off his harness. He does a play now when we put it on. He likes to sleep on the second shelf of my laundry room rack. I put blankets on it to make him comfortable.  He will need a fenced in yard.

Frankie

Age: 2 years old

Breed: Border Collie Mix

Sex: Male

Weight: n/a

Frankie loves a good cuddle, and he’s a very sweet boy. He likes people, and sometimes lays down on his foster mom’s feet. He likes to chew on his Whimzees, and plays with various toys. He like to play keep away, with his sister, as she chases him around the yard. He’s a solid little bundle of puppy joy.  He will require a fenced in yard.
